Is it safe to compress my images here?
Yes. Your image never leaves your device — compression happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
Why doesn't the quality slider shrink my PNG much?
PNG is a lossless format, so it has no quality setting to trade away for size. For real PNG savings, choose 'Convert to JPG' or 'Convert to WebP' as the output format — both are lossy and compress dramatically better.
What quality level should I pick?
80–85% is usually indistinguishable from the original while cutting file size by half or more. Drop to 60% or below for much smaller files when quality matters less (e.g. thumbnails).
Will compression change my image dimensions?
No. Your image keeps its exact pixel dimensions — only how aggressively the data is encoded changes.
Do I need to install anything?
